In our office, we use an approach known as Precise Structural Correction. This is NOT traditional chiropractic. Traditional chiropractic seeks to achieve a few objectives, such as:
- Reduction in pain
- Increase in range of motion
- Decrease in muscle tension
There are many chiropractors in Ann Arbor that focus on these goals. They do a great job.
However, this type of care is simply a bandage which treats the symptoms and ignores the underlying cause. In many of these cases, relief from treatment is only temporary. The patient is required to return repeatedly in order to continue to achieve symptom relief.
I know there is a better option, and that is what we do at Precision Chiropractic & Massage Center!
In our office we focus on the underlying problem known as a structural shift in the spine and skeleton. Structural shifts refer to a specific change to the structure of the spine and skeleton that negatively affects the function of the nervous system.
The primary goal of Precise Structural Correction is to correct structural shifts in the spine. When these shifts are left untreated, a wide range of secondary conditions may occur.
What is a Structural Shift?
A Structural shift refers to a specific change to the structure of your spine or skeleton that negatively affects the function of the nervous system.
The most common structural shifts we address are those in the vertebrae surrounding the spine.
The vertebrae in your spine protect your spinal cord. The spinal cord is the origin or source of all the nerves that travel throughout your body. These nerves control movement, muscle contraction, organs, sensations and many other critical functions.

Have you ever seen a person that carries their head in a forward position? What about a person that has one shoulder that is higher than the other? If so, you have observed a structural shift! In other cases, structural shifts are not as visible and exist on a smaller scale.
Nobody’s Structure is Perfect…
However, just like normal body temperature, there is an established normal range for spinal structure. Our job is to assess the spine for structural shifts. If structural shifts are left untreated, they affect the ability of the nervous system to function properly.
Consequently, a variety of secondary conditions arise, which you can read more about here.
